Makeup Revolution Lip Lavas - 'Forgiven' and 'Tremor'

As usual, Makeup Revolution have taken it upon themselves to make a more affordable dupe or a pricey product - this time, duping Too Faced's 'Melted Lipsticks' with their 'Lip Lavas'. Essentially, these are like your regular lippies...but liquid and in a squeeze tube. I wondered if liquid lippies had any real point (besides mixing) when regular bullet lippies have been ideal for about 90 years? And so, I purchased a couple to test out...

Review Makeup Revolution Lip Lavas - 'Forgiven' and 'Tremor'

Lip Lavas come packaged like squeezy glosses, a tube with a felt applicator attached. The tubes are coloured to match(ish) the product itself, which is pretty handy if you buy a few of these! Simple, functional. I will say that when 'Forgiven' first arrived the applicator had become loose, however, I emailed and a new one quickly found its way to me with no fuss. Fast, no nonsense customer service!

Review Makeup Revolution Lip Lavas - 'Forgiven' and 'Tremor'

Above, I am wearing 'Forgiven' - a nudey yellow toned peach shade. I wouldn't straight up call it a nude, as it's too peachy (in my opinion) to really classify as one. If you're after a nude of a more natural or brown toned hue, 'Forgiven' aint the one. It is, however, a great shade for Spring and I imagine it would suit a wide range of skintones.

This guy is 'Tremor', a bright, medium, slightly yellow toned pink which just about dips its toe ever so slightly into the coral side of the spectrum. When I swatched this I thought it would look awful on me, but I actually quite like it! It would definitely be a great Spring/ Summer shade and I can see many folk rockin' it with a tan.

The formula is an odd one to describe...imagine melting a well pigmented, creamy lippy and that is basically it! I find them a tiny bit oily (nowhere near like OCC lip tars, though, and nowhere near as thin), so they do settle into lip lines a little but you can control this by applying just a thin layer - which is enough for decent coverage. I think they would be best worn over lipliners for full on colour with no risk of settling, but they can hold their own, too.

Wear wise, I'm impressed! For me, these last longer than traditional lipsticks and seem to wear down in layers, leaving an even hint of colour behind as opposed to a ring of lippy (attractive!)

Overall, lip lavas are well pigmented, last well, great for mixing shades and fab cheap dupes for the Too Faced equivalent.

PRICE: £2.99

REVIEW: Makeup Revlution 'Iconic Pro 2' Palette

I'm pretty sure Makeup Revolution have truly earned their dupe master crown with two of their newer releases, the 'Iconic Pro' palettes. These guys are spot on dupes of the Lorac pro palettes, the swatch comparisons I've shown the shades are mostly identical, with only a few being a touch out. Whether or not you're after a Lorac dupe or just some nice new colours, 'Iconic Pro 2' has you covered...

With a mix of soft neutral and deeper shades, mattes and neutrals, cool and warm - this palette is ideal for a multitude of looks. I've been wearing the brown and goldy shades paired with bolder colours along the lower lashline for my 'work look' - I'd love an excuse to wear that gorgeous red smoked out with the black as it would make a killer night out look (somebody take me for cocktails!)

The formula for these palettes is a bit more luxe than their standard palettes, with the mattes in particular gliding on like a dream. The shimmers are beautifully pigmented, but (as always) I find they look their best over a sticky base. This palette also comes with a double sided synthetic brush, with a handy blending brush on one end and a rather useless paddle brush on the other.

Aren't these shades just wonderful?! It's so easy to make a really lovely look, especially if neutrals with a pop are your thing.

Overall a great 'go to' palette for creating looks you don't have to think too hard about, a bargain at £6.99 for 16 shades, well pigmented and all around just a great little addition to any make-up bag.

RRP - £6.99
Availability - Larger Superdrug stores and online.

Makeup Revolution 'West End Girls' and 'Born to Die' Palettes

Now, seeing as Makeup Revolution clearly don't stock enough eyeshadow palettes already (oooh the sarcasm) they decided it was about time they released five more, the 'I Heart Obsession' palettes. I was surprised to find two in the mail to show you lovely lot - 'West End Girls' and 'Born to Die'.

The 'I Heart Obsession' palettes are mostly made up of neutrals, with the odd splash of colour. 'West End Girls' and 'Wild is the Wind' contain the boldest colours of all five palettes; I think 'Paris' will be the most popular with its pinky neutral shades (think Urban Decay 'Naked 3'.) Now, lets get down to business...

WEST END GIRLS

'West End Girls' is a mix of colourful shades and subdued neutrals - in truth, the entire bottom row could be used as highlighters! This would be a brilliant palette if you want something to quickly take you from day to night.
Yellow gold, warm medium brown, plum-wine with blue and copper sparkle (awesome), deep blue with blue and copper sparkle, dove grey with gold sparkle (loove) and a forest green with a black base.
The bottom four shades are a barely there pinky cream (weakest pigmentation of all colours), pale pink with crystal sparkle (looks almost like gloss in certain lights!), a pale golden tan and a white gold.

BORN TO DIE

'Born To Die' is made up of a selection of (mostly) cool neutrals. I imagine these would work perfectly for those with a Snow White type complexion, or those after a 'work safe' palette.

Gleaming silvery white, warm tan, two taupes close enough they only really needed one, a cool toned brown and deep graphite with silver sparkle.

Bottom row is made up of a super pale pink, medium brown, a rich deep brown and slate purple (love.)

Both palettes have great pigmentation in the sparkly shades, though I always use a sticky base to show them at their best. The deeper matte shades have ace pigmentation too, but the paler colours are a bit weak. I find these easy to apply and blend and think they're fab little treats at just £3.99 each!

PRICE - £3.99 per palette.
AVAILABILITY - Larger Superdrug stores and online.

Do either of these take your fancy? What's your favourite Makeup Revolution palette? Let me know! Comments up top!

What's in My Everyday Make-up Bag?

It's nice 'n' all  seeing all these reviews for a huge mix of products, but it's those products that make it into your everyday routine that have stood the real test - don't you think?

PRIME - I've been using W7 'Prime Magic' for a while now in a bid to make my gargantuan pores less obvious. I'd say it works quite well, but next on my hit list is Benefit 'Porefessional'.

CONCEAL - I decided to test out Essence 'Stay All Day Concealer' which to be frank, it awful as a concealer since it rubs away as soon as you attempt to blend it, but I do like it to highlight my brow bone. Old faithful Collection 'Lasting Perfection' never does me wrong!

BASE - I fancied something with a bit more coverage than my usual Bourjois pickings, so Revlon 'Colourstay' it was. This isn't as full coverage as I remember, especially when buffed in with a stippling brush, but it sure as Hell lasts!

POWDER - Another Essence offering! This geezer keeps my foundation in place nicely, but I think it also gives a bit of an orangey tinge...back to Rimmel once this guy's finished...

CONTOUR - Sleek contour kit in 'Medium' is my pick, it's a wee bit too warm to be a 'true contouring shade' but it adds a little definition to my cheeks and warms up my complexion nicely.

BLUSH - Yet more Essence - eek! This peachy shade is ideal fir my skintone and help me look fair more alive than I usually feel!

PRIME - Oh, Too Faced 'Shadow Insurance', how I love thee. My favourite eyeshadow primer ever.

EYESHADOW - I tend to keep eyeshadows I can just throw on in my make-up bag, which lately has been a selection of Darling Girl and Essence. I've actually reviewed this palette recently, you can see swatches right here.

LINE - After scouring THREE Superdrugs for my all time favourite liner (MUA waterproof) and coming up empty handed (is it just me, or do Superdrug suck at keeping MUA stocked?) I grabbed the first alternative I saw - 2true waterproof liner. So far so good, but I do miss my MUA!

LASHES - Max Factor are the don of mascaras which STAY. 'Masterpiece Transform' gives volume and length without becoming clumpy - ideal.

BROWS - How ragged does my Fashionista brow palette look?! I daren't show you the state of the inside. However, it does have the perfect dark brown for my brows and doubles nicely as a little neutrals palette.

And that, my friends, is my everyday make-up bag! What's in yours?

Makeup Revolution 'Hard Day' Palette

Makeup Revolution don't half churn out new products, do they?! It's a bit nuts how regularly something new is added to their collection of beauty bits and bobs, almost to the point that it's not really news any more when they do...That aside, I recently received their 'Hard Day' palette, for my reviewing and your viewing pleasure...

'Hard Day' is a collection of deep, rich shades (that amethyst purple is diviiine) cut with moody neutrals. This palette leans heavily towards the shimmery side of things, with only six of the eighteen shades being matte -I'd argue they were actually slightly satin, but hey, maybe I'm just being fussy!

The neutral shades are pale - medium and mostly cool toned, ideal 'one colour washes' for English rose type complexions for everyday looks. The deeper shades are perfect for quick night out eye make-up, throw any of them on the lid and blend out for a beautiful, fast smokey eye.

Each shade has great colour payoff, though the mattes may need some extra layering for full pigmentation. I recommend a sticky base for the richer shades to show off their full splendour, though it isn't strictly necessary.

All in all, a fantastic day to night palette I think fair to medium skin would adore.

Available from Makeup Revolution at £6. This palette is limited edition, so be sure to snap it up if it takes your fancy!

What do you think to the 'Hard Day' palette? Do you have any Makeup Revolution palettes?

REVIEW: Makeup Revolution Pure Pigments Eye Dusts

Is it just me, or does 'eye dust' sound really grim? That aside, I picked some up with my last Makeup Revolution order as I'd seem a swatch of 'Indirect' and had to make it mine. I'm quite the sucker for loose eyeshadows, they're just so versetile, so of course 'Indirect' wasn't the only one to find its way into my basket...

Makeup Revolution have a pretty decent range of shades to choose from, from bright pinky red to the softest shades of shell. Whether you're a long time loose pigment lover just looking for a few more pretties or totally new to them, you'll definitely find something to take your fancy!

I opted for a couple of girly shades, a fool proof metallic, a rich khaki and a super glitzy black.

The packaging is basic but functional which is fine by me! Clear, chunky plastic houses the eyeshadows, topped with a sifter. Personally I will probaby remove the sifters as I'm not a huge fan, however, they are quite handy if you're a loose shadow newbie.

The formula of these eyeshadows are lovely to work with, soft, smooth, blendable and well pigmented. They all held up well over a primer, though 'Antic' definitely needs a sticky base as it is basically 70% glitter 30% eyeshadow! Darling Girl 'Glitter Glue' was perfect for this, making 'Antic' the ideal candidate for a fun smokey eye.

Can you see why I had to get 'Indirect'?! A gorgeously glowy pink which makes for a beautiful inner corner highlight, or even cheekbone highlight. 'Allure' reminds me of the very first eyeshadow I ever had (read 'stole off my Mum') and so I just had to get it for nostalgia's sake! 'Grandeur' is an incredible old bronze shade which would look amazing on tanned skin. 'Diguise' is a dark metallic khaki with golden shimmer. 'Antic'...well, I already told you about that one!

All in all, great colours and a great formula! The shades aren't exactly complex, but they are beautiful, and I'm sure everyone could find something they'd love to add to their make-up bag.

PRICE - £1 for 1.5g of product (bargain, much?!)
AVAILABILITY - Online at Makeup Revolution

Have you tried any of these? Any shades catch your eye?

REVIEW: Makeup Revolution 'Girls on Film' Palette

Yep, I have some more Make-up Revolution for you to 'oooh' and 'aaah' at today! This time in the form of one of their eyeshadow palettes, 'Girls on Film' - you ready?!

'Girls on Film' consists of a hearty mix of neutrals, pinks, purples and metallics, with twelve shimmer and six matte shades. I picked this out of their huge array of palettes since it would be ideal for both daytime (ooh taupes and neutrals) and evening (you see that cranberry shade?!) looks.

The packaging is pretty typical for these kind of palettes, a sturdy black number with a HUGE mirror inside the lid. Yes, it also comes with one of those pointless sponge applicator things - seriously, why do they even still manufacture those any more?! - which will swiftly find its way to the bin!

The outer sleeve is printed with a picture of the palette, and the names for shades can be found on a plastic insert inside the palette (like Sleek palettes). I'd advise keeping the insert and taping it over the picture on the box, this way you wont lose it and you'll always have the names for refer back to :)

The shimmery shades have that oily type feeling, which means that a primer is essential to keep them in place all day. Texture aside, you'll find these to be beautifully pigmented, buildable, blendable and very wearable indeed - perfect! Yep, even the mattes are pigmented, which makes a nice change in palettes like these.

Eeach row swatched. I love the matte purple shades and pink-browns - beautiful.

A great all rounder of a palette, ideal for looks suited to work interviews, mad nights out and everything in between! I think these shades would work well on a multitude of skintones, they really are quite lovely.

If these shades take your fancy, you can pick up 'Girl On Film' for just £6 (bargain or what?) from Superdrug stores or online at the Make-up Revolution site.

Like these shades? What's your favourite product by Make-up revolution? Anything you plan on buying from them?

Makeup Revolution Velvet Matte Lip Lacquers

Not so long ago, Lime crime took the make-up world by storm with the unveiling of their extraordinarily long lasting liquid lipsticks - 'Velvetines'. Since then, a few brand have had a pop at duping them - MUA, Pretty Zombie, Sleek, Rimmel and now purse friendly budget brand, Makeup Revolution. Curious to see how they held up, I ordered two lip lacquers to try for myself.

[ 'I'm in a death metal band' font *swoon* ]

[ Rose gold outer sleeve, it's like they were designed with bloggers in mind...]

The tubes themselves are your typical gloss tubes, nothing fancy. These come with doe foot applicators which allow for more precise application than those silly whippy brushes you sometimes get with glosses. Look at the golden gothy font, too, oh how I'm a sucker for such things...

[ Makeup Revolution 'Velvet Depravity' matte lip lacquer swatch ]

For some reason, all of the names have 'Velvet' as a prefix - why, I do not know. Maybe in homage to 'Velvetines' it odd, don't you think? Bizarre naming aside, 'Velvet Depravity' is a bright, slightly blue toned creamy purple - eye catching and unique. I think 'Velvet Depravity' would suit pale folk best; it would also look amazing worked into a darker purple to create an ombre effect.

[ Makeup Revolution 'Velvet Vamp' matte lip lacquer swatch ]

'Velvet Vamp' is right up my street. Unapologetically deep, dark, gothic purple-red - it's actually so close to black I'm having trouble describing its colour in exact terms. All you need to know is that if you're after the statement lip for Autumn/ Winter - you've found it.

[Apply over a balm/ lipstick with a synthetic brush for maximum precision and comfort ]

Texture and application wise, they're identical. Fairly thick (thicker than MUA's and Sleek's equivalents), extremely well pigmented and veeery matte with a faint smell that could best be described as acrylic paint. Once dried, these STAY PUT. They will not budge unless you're eating greasy food, as it's only something oily which is capable of removing them.

Overall, I have mixed feelings about these lip lacquers. On the one hand, the pigmentation and colours are unbeatable, the longevity is ridicuously good and I do love a strong matte finish -however, the matte texture is very drying without a heavy dose of lip balm and the removal process can be a pain. Is it worth it, though? For me, yes, but only just...

Available - In store at Superdrug or online at Makeup Revolution

Price - £3
Selection - 11 shades

Have you tried Makeup Revolution lip lacquers? What about other brands equivalents? Tempted by these? Let me know!

Makeup Revolution 'Atomic' Lipsticks

Budget brand 'Makeup Revolution' haven't half been doing the round on blogs, have they?! First the highlighter heart tins, then the palettes, now the 'Atomic' lipstick collection. I parted with a fiver and picked up the entire collection (how often can you say that?!) for your viewing pleasure...

The 'Atomic' lipstick collection comprises of five lippies, ranging from a cute as pie pin-up red to a shade Medusa would have in her 'Everyday Make-up' posts if mythical beings had blogs (how amazing would that be?!)

Packaging is basically the same as MUA's £1 lipsticks (which aint too surprising) - black casing with a small amount of the actual product in a clear cap in the lid.

'Atomic Ruby' is a true 50s cherry red, with a creamy satin type finish. 'Make Me Magnificent' is a frosty/ metallic pale purpley pink shade, I think only the pale could really pull this one off! 'Make it Right' is simply diviiine - glowing shimmery medium 'true' purple - gorgeous! 'Make Me Tonight' is a purple toned brown, an ace Autumn/ 90s shade. 'Atomic Serpent' is a medium forest green with slight shimmer.

Now, everyone keeps calling shades in this collection 'unwearable' - stop it! Lets clear this up - purple isn't that odd a colour choice these days since MAC made it popular in recent years, the brown is entirely 'wearable' especially for those with dark skintones and the green can be used to darken reds if nothing else. Even if shades are a bit out of your comfort zone, at £1 a pop you may as well give 'em a go!

The formula has a lot of slip, which means wear time isn't excellent but what do you expect at £1 really?! 'Atomic Ruby' has a creamier formula than the others, and wears much better. I'd recommend lipliner bases with the shimmer shades.

Overall, not a bad collection at all! Nice colours to experiment with, pigmentation is pretty good and you can't argue with the price. After trying these I may make a purchase for some more of their £1 shades as I actually really liked the formula for 'Atomic Ruby', which I think is the standard formula across their other shades.

Price - £1 each
Availability - Superdrug stores or online at Makeup Revolution
