Makeup Revolution 'Black Velvet' Palette

I should probably state that this isn't turning into a Makeup Revolution blog, I swear! It's just that with so little time these days, eyeshadow palettes are pretty short and sweet to write about (although not to photograph, holy moly) and Makeup Revolution are constantly coming out with new palettes too pretty not to share. Today I'm sharing their 'Black Velvet' palette, which I think may just be my favourite so far...

Makeup Revolution Black Velvet Eyeshadow Palette Review

'Black Velvet' contains 16 shades apparently inspired by the luxe fabric itself, I'd kind of expect more opulent, perhaps gothic shades if this were the case, however instead we have a palette of warm neutrals...Not that I'm complaining, however this wouldn't be a Makeup Revolution review without me questioning the naming!

With 13 matte shades and 3 shimmers, 'Black Velvet' is the palette people have been begging Makeup Revolution for for quite some time - a sophisticated palette with a somewhat mature feel.

As you can see, it's pretty freakin' beaut'. Flash killed the intensity of some shades a bit, but you get the jist! Personally I love warm neutrals, they suit my skintone perfectly. The only shade that seems out of place in this palette is the steel blue, I'd have gone with a cranberry myself as it would work better with the other shades. There are also two cream shades which are virtually identical...Dupes and rogues aside, it's a well considered palette.

The texture of these shadows is closer to the new formulas in their 'Iconic Pro' palettes than of their regular palettes - buttery smooth, well pigmented mattes and shimmers that blend like a dream. The pale shades are pretty weak, definitely best for subtle highlights rather than bold colour.

The only drawbacks are the weak pale shades and the velvety cover attracting dust and fluff, looking a bit messy. Besides that - beautiful shades, great formula, versatile and a bargain at £7.99 - what more could you ask for?

Available online at Makeup Revolution at £7.99
