REVIEW: Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shampoo

Finding SLS free shampoo which doesn't cost an arm and a leg can be a bit of a challenge - especially on the highstreet, so picture my face all full of glee when I stumbled across Organix on the shelves of Boots. The type most suited to my dry, rebellious, curly hair is 'Brazilian Keratin Therapy', which promises to strengthen, soften, smooth and add shine...But would it deliver?

With a rich mix of coconut oil (moisture and shine), keratin proteins (smoothing and strength), avocado oil (moisture and strength) and cocoa butter (cuticle smoothing) on the surface this Organix shampoo sounds ideal for distressed tresses like mine.

The product itself is a shimmering golden brown, with a light coconut scent which doesn't linger in the hair once washed away (to my disappointment.) I use two small blobs on my ridiculously thick shoulder length hair, which leaves it literally squeaky clean. I'd definitely recommend letting this stuff sit like a conditioner in your hair for a while before washing it out to achieve the full smoothing effect because, yes, it does have one!

Once you've washed it out, your hair will feel kind of...clammy. Don't panic. When your hair has fully dried and been styled, I promise you'll be thanking me for this review! Organix 'Brazilian Keratin Therapy' leaves my hair smooth and super soft with far less frizz than I usually battle with, plus straightening it seems to be a faster task - winner!

Now, I'm not naive. I know the smoothing is mainly down to the the silicones discreetly tucked away on the ingredients list, which is why I only use this on and off. Silicone damage just aint worth it, especially if like me you generally just fling your hair in a bun and roll with it. However, for using before a night out or a 'hair down' day, you couldn't go far wrong with this one!

Priced at £6.99 for 385ml of product, available from Boots (right now on 3 for 2!)

  1. I've got the Argan Oil shampoo by Organix and I don't use it often because of the silicones, but it does make my hair feel lovely when used! The texture of the shampoos is so bizarre x

  2. This sounds really nice. I tried their Coconut Milk Shampoo and didn't really like it that much.

  3. I've got very strong and thick, straight hair. I think I tried the acai berry shampoo when I ran out of my shampoo bar and didn't have time to go to lush. I used it with my usual Nature's Gate+raw honey conditioner mix and tbh I had no qualms with it, it just didn't work as well as the shampoo bar.

Although, it's probably worth noting that I never use heat on my hair and only wash it about twice a week.

  4. I absolutely love this shampoo and conditioner, the only thing I was bothered about though was the lack of detangling stuff in it so felt a bit like my hair was breaking more when trying to brush it after a wash, but once it's dried the results are so good!

  5. @ Jenny, I might try the Argan Oil one once this runs out :) It's a bit jelly like, aint it?!

@ Gillian, I pondered the Coconut Milk one but I always find coconut products disappointing :(

@ Sowlis, I haven't seen the acai berry one around. Souns like you've got it right with your routine, though :)

@ Terri, eeek, that sounds worrying! I haven't noticed that myself, but then again I only bother brushing it if I'm straightening it (curly girl problems haha)
