Recent Skincare (Mini Reviews)

I'll admit, skincare is generally something I suck at - but at least I never go to sleep wearing make-up, that counts for something, right?! However, more recently I've fallen into some kind of skincare routine which for the moment is keeping my oily-combination skin under some degree of control.

Garnier Pure Active Deep Pore Unclogging Wash - I'll buy practically anything with salycylic acid involved, as it's one of the few ingredients which actually has an effect on my skin! I've been using this morning and evening daily for about...7 months (woah) and it really is a gem for oily, spot prone skin. I've had far less blemishes since using this, scars around my chin I've had forever have faded and my pores seem a little smaller - winner! Plus, it's really tingly and refreshing. RRP £4.99 for 200ml - available from Boots, Superdrug and a handful of supermarkets.

Asda Skin System 'Matt Finish Moisturiser' - I bought this out of curiosity, not expecting much from something that costs a mere POUND (yeah, you read that right.) I'm actually amazed at how good this is! The mattifying effect is really strong and lasts through the day, helping make-up stay in place. It does suck all the moisture from foundation though, so if you use oil free foundations definitely mix a drop of something like The Body Shop beautifying oil back in before application. RRP £1 for 100ml of product, available from Asda.

ETAT PUR Salycic Acid 300 - I received this is a beauty box and basically jumped for joy. SALYCYLIC ACID IN A DROPPER BOTTLE! Salycylic acid is a wonder ingredient for me, the only thing that battles blemishes effectively and fabulously quickly. RRP £12.20 for 15ml of product, available from Etat Pur.

Boots Botanics Gentle Cleansing Cream - A simple, scent free, calming cleanser good enough for removing even waterproof mascara. Light weight and easy to wipes off, if you're looking for the most basic of cleansers this is a great product to start off with. RRP £4.49 for 250ml of product, available at Boots.

Simple Spotless Skin Quick Fix Cleaning Wipes - Ok, ok, sometimes I just can't be bothered washing my face properly and opt for wipes instead. To be honest I've never rated anything from Simple, they fail to deliver 90% of the time for me! These wipes are pretty average, not brilliant, not awful. They also contain alcohol, tut tut, Simple, tut tut. RRP £3.85 for 25 wipes, available from Boots, Superdrug and some supermarkets (I got them on sale in Morrisons - definitely wouldn't pay almost £4 for some wipes!)

My skin still leaves an awful lot to be desired (thanks, genetics, thanks a lot) but following some kind of skincare routine has helped a ridiculous amount! I think I'll treat myself to some Murad once this lot has been finished up...

  1. Gosh, I'm not brilliant with my skin care either but I really do like the Garnier range. I've just been taking zinc daily for my skin and that's made a massive difference! xxx

  2. Great post! It's nice to see some affordable products getting a good review. x

  3. Great post, it's always great to know which drugstore products really work. I love Avene's range for oily skin. x

  4. I'm with you on Simple- I think there's only 2 products that I've used from them that I've actually liked! I love their creamy eye makeup remover and their Clear Skin Oil Balancing moisturiser works really well for me (although my friend maintains that it is Satan's own spawn) but apart from that? Bleh. Particularly the eye makeup corrector pen. Seriously, what a waste of money that was!

  5. If you ask Simple if they put alcohol in their products, they'll lie to you even when the evidence is infront of you x

  6. I love garnier skincare products! I use their Simply Essentials Soothing Cleansing Lotion daily, I do really like Simple's Refreshing Facial Wash Gel but I do know what you mean, I've used it in the past without moisturising afterwards and my skins felt very tight xo
