Back in Black!

My parents' house is not the ideal place for the upkeep of brightly coloured hair. Why? Mainly because of the bright white, vinyl floor which stains like a mother hubbard. So...basically I don't have anywhere to dye my hair fun colours until September! It seemed a better idea just to suck it up and go back to black.

I used Nice 'n' Easy 'Black' dye, which cost around £4.50 from Morrisons. I'm super happy with the coverage and shade, even if it *is* a tiny bit blue (but Hell, pretty much all black dyes are). I'm not a big fan of box dyes in general since they dry out my hair, but I don't really trust black veggie dyes not to stain everything my hair touches!

What are your favourite brands for natural colours? What unnatural colour should I go next? Anyone tried a black veggie dye?

  4. Ah man, it sucks you had to go back to black. I will have to do that as well 'cause I'm in a period play soon. It'll be a sad day. I was thinking about using Directions Black anyway since it'll be cheaper?

  5. What's the difference between veggie dyes and box dyes? I'm considering dying my hair (a boring colour, I'm not allowed anything interesting until I move out *pout*) and there are a lot of bloggers who opt for veggie dyes... is it just because they're the ones that are more often crazy colours which more mainstream box brands don't, or..?

  6. That's a very nice black colour and doesn't look too "fake", if you know what I mean? How does it look in sunlight? I wish I had hair to experiment with. Awww, to be young again... But then again, last time I had purple hair the border guard at Washington DC airport pulled me out of the line.

  8. I've used Manic Panic's black shade, and Jerome Russel Punky Black color. I tend to go for blue-blacks when I do black. You look lovely.

  10. @ Jenny, oooh, I do have about 3/4 a jar of hot pink dye left!

@ Misseblog, thanks! I loaded it with oils haha :)

@ Robyn, Halloween hair! I'm a sucker for orange lately...

@ L, let me know hot wit works out for you if you do go for Diections!

@ Floam, basically - veggie dyes are less damaging. They actually condition your hair, whereas box dyes contain more harmful ingredients which can cause your hair to dry out severely with prolonged use. Plus, you can mix veggie dyes to create your own fun colours!

@ DasMarkus, thanks! No idea, sunlight doesn't exist in the UK right now :( Haha, oh my, purple hair getting you into trouble!

@ Wendi, I might go orange and pink! Fruit salad hair!

  12. I find myself always going back to straight black because the upkeep on bright colors is just too much.

  13. You look stunning, even though I really liked those coloured highlights in your hair. Perhaps chocolate brown would be something you could try next. I've tried the henna form Lush which gives a really nice chocolate brown colour. I've been really curious of the veggie dyes so next time I think I'll try one of them!

  15. In my experience, black veggie dyes fade to weird colours and stay in rather poorly. The dark hair looks great on you!
