Lush stores have always been a bit intimidating to me. The smell, the staff wondering around, the slightly strange displays, the 'Do I serve myself? Do I ask for help?'...all in all, I just imagined it would be an awful shopping experience for somebody like me. I'm quite shy, quiet and easily panicked, so somebody bounding over to me and squealing 'WELCOME TO LUSH CAN I HELP YOOOU?!' would have me running quickly in the opposite direction. That's why, only today, did I brave entering a Lush lair to actually buy things...
I approached with caution, worried a Lush monster would dive out from behind a basket of bubble bars and bombard me with soaps and sales pitches. This was not the case. I got a friendly 'Hello!' and timidly approached the apron clad lady and rambled something along the lines of, 'Hi, I've never bought anything from Lush before, but I've had a few recommendations...'
She quickly picked apart some of the things I had been recommended as not being the best option for my oily, spot prone skin and showed me a few other products. Immediately, she suggested 'Dark Angels' cleanser and lead me over to try it out on my hand as she talked through the effects of each ingredient. I really liked the exfoliating effect and the ingredient list reminded me a lot of my favourite soap, OHWTO's 'Black Magic'. Sold!
Then, I asked about 'The Hair Doctor' hair treatment and told her about my past love for bleach and dyes. She laughed and told me she uses 'The Hair Doctor' so that she doesn't feel so guilty for abusing her own (bright red) hair before scooping out a sample pot for me to try.
Last but definitely not least, I picked up a bottle of 'Snow Fairy' shower gel. The Lush Lady smiled and did a little 'Why am I not surprised?' roll of the eyes telling me it's their Christmas best seller every year. I sniffed 'Snow Fairy' last week when I went in for a (very quick) browse and couldn't stop thinking about it! It smells like Hubba Bubba/ Juicy Fruit chewing gum. OM NOM NOM.
I was quite surprised at how much I actually enjoyed shopping at Lush! The lovely Lush Lady was definitely a big help and not scary or 'sales pitchy' at all. I hope she's there next time to help me out - yes, I said 'next time'...

Lush shops intimidate me so much!
ReplyDeleteI need to go get a bottle of Snow Fairy! I always love shopping at Lush, the girls that work at the store by me are always so helpful and friendly!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll have to pop in on pay day as I keep seeing great stuff! Snow Fairy looks lovely! I'd love to see how you get on with the cleanser x
ReplyDeleteGreat haul! I'm still collecting guts to do my first Lush haul :D
ReplyDeleteAhh, see, I've only been to Lush twice, once to buy some presents for a friend and once for me. I love the smell of the shop but I didn't like the bath bombs I got... I'd LOVE to have a Lush shop where the people are as nice as your one is, the ones here *really* put me off!
ReplyDeleteI love Snow Fairy. They have it in a magic wand style now, its quite gimmicky but I can't get enough, casting spells in my bath! Heh, well anyway :P
ReplyDeleteWould love to see how you get on with the cleaner & to see what else you buy next time :P ..
Snow Fairy is my favourite thing from lush ever! Adore it!
ReplyDeleteI have Dark Angels too, it's fantastic xx
I love the staff in Lush! They're always so eager to help without being pushy and they really know the products they're selling. I always leave the store so happy and perked up.
ReplyDeleteI love Lush and buy things there every year on a one-for-you-one-for-me basis for Christmas. However, I have an uber sensitive nose, so going into the shops gives me an instant migraine, so it's strictly online purchases for me.
ReplyDeleteYou'll quickly become addicted like the rest of us Lushies! I've been dying to my hands on some snow fairy but since I asked for it for Christmas I've been forbidden to buy any Lush until then Oh woe is me ! LOL Hope you enjoy everything! You might also want to try out their toner and moisturizers they are heavenly!!
ReplyDeletesnow fairy sounds awesome! i def want to pick that up. i recently bought fresh farmacy which is suppose to be great for oily acne prone skin.. so far im loving it! you should try it next time :)
ReplyDeleteI still havnt brought anything from lush yet! The smell when I walk past it is so overwelming Im always put off to go in. I definitely want to pick up some seasonal products soon though especially snow fairy!

ahhh! I'm so excited for you. Be warned: lush is probably the most addictive shop ever.
ReplyDeleteI think half the reason Lush staff come across as scary is because they are so passionate about the products - but the good thing is generally they don't hound their customers - ah I have to stick up for them I'm an ex-Lush Lady myself :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. totally agree Snow Fairy is BEAUTIFUL
I was so intimidated by lush at first but really the staff are so lovely, they really do help rather than just try to sell you stuff you dont need.
ReplyDeleteOhh, i like snow fairy but i dont seen why theres so much hype around it, must just be me though! haha.

I bought Dark Angels the other too, I haven't used it yet love to know how you get on with it!
ReplyDeleteSnow Fairy is amazing! I've been buying it for years and usually stock up on the big bottles so it lasts me a whole year!
ReplyDeleteI used to use Dark Angels all the time as well, it was really great on my oily face. Angels on Bare Skin is really nice too.
I used to be obsessed with Lush but I've calmed down a lot and I'm a bit out of the loop with all their new products.
The staff in the Glasgow Lush are so pushy, they literally follow you around the shop grrr! I used to easily spend £30-40 each time I went but now I stick to 1 or 2 things.
ReplyDeleteI think I am the only person in the world who hates the smell of Snow Fairy. It's too sickly for my tastes!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of Dark Angels though. Oily and spot prone is my skin to a t so I'd love to hear how you get on with it!
I have a real love/hate relation ship with lush- I love their products but I can only go within 10 feet of the shop if I have a very blocked nose as the strong scent really doesn't agree with me!

I love LUSH! Even though I'm not the most confident person, I've got to know my LUSH assistants quite well and they always recognise me now, I think they're lovely :)

Its funny how Lush shops are so intimidating!? Everytime I walk past I want to go in, but feel like I cant just for a browse. Have only ever been in once.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Might just order online!? haha.

Try 'Rock Star' soap...it's hot pink and just smells incredible-if you like snow fairy you'll love it. It's the only product that actually makes my skin feel squeaky clean, if you're a bit on the oily side it's amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI love LUSH :D Hence two hauls in the past week on my blog, snow fairy is amazing. My staff seem to have got really pushy lately, :/

I love lush!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Lush so much. It does intimidate me a little though. There isn't one where I live now though so I have to pop in when I go to visit my parents. I wouldn't be able to walk by without my nose exploding from all of the awesome anyway.
ReplyDeleteI can't even go into Lush anymore, I find that the ones in my area are just a mess of SMELLS and STAFF IN YOUR FACE and it just makes me want to leave! They are always like, let me try this on you and I'm like NO DON'T TOUCH ME!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat haul! I love Lush and often post reviews on my blog. I like Lush people a lot since they all really do enjoy their products. If you tell them that you just want to browse quietly, they'll leave you alone!
ReplyDeleteI'm yet to step in LUSH but I'm actually scared I'll buy their whole store.
