Did you know that depending on where in the circulatory system and health, our blood is different shades? Blood carrying oxygen is bright orange-red, without it is a deep purple-red. Think about when you get a cut and you scurry about looking for tissue to wipe away the blood - at first, it's a bright red, by time you mop it up...dark.
Anyway! Here is a venous blood colour I mixed up for my lips. I was attempting to show Rockalily London the type of gothic red I've been searching for...but even this leans a wee bit too brown! Mixing dark reds is ridiculously hard :/
FACE - No.7 'Beautifully Matte' foundation mixed with Natural Collection 'Shine Away Foundation', Kryolan powder Witch concealer, Ben Nye pink blush.
EYES - Sleek black eyeshadow, Illamasqua sealing gel, mascara.
LIPS - A mix of E.L.F black cream eyeliner, Maybelline 'Diva Red' lipstick and Sleek 'Pin-Up' pout paint.
What's your favourite kind of red lipstick? Any recommendations for dark reds?
This is such a bold sultry look. Really gorgeous on you. I hardly ever wear red as I'm not sure it suits me but maybe I will experiment xxx
ReplyDeleteRevlon matte In the red (beautiful darker true red shade) and Wine not (dark red-purple). In the red is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteand if you want something non-matte:
I heard NYX's round lipsticks in Hero and Chic red are quite nice ... although might not be dark enough. hope that helped! =)
Love this color lippie on you! Not sure if I could pull it off as well as you do! Looks great with the simple eye and winged liner!
ReplyDeleteI'm on the hunt for a perfect dark non brown non purple red too, I would love to hear if you find one!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing! I love that lip colour. Your eyeliner is perfect!
ReplyDelete@ Tamsin, thanks, I think there is a red to suit everyone. Admittedly, they take a while to get used to wearing at first, though!
ReplyDelete@ Nanethiel, thank you for your suggestions but none of them seem dark enough haha. I think my mission is going to be a veeery long one!
@ The Peach, aw thanks, chuck! I'm sure you could pull it off!
@ Madame B Fatale, I will be sure to let you know! I hope you twee me to say if you find one too :D
@ Lillian, aw, thank you! I always use sealing gel and e/s for eyeliner now :)
wow that is an amazing colour! really suits you! i don't think i could pull something like that off :) x
ReplyDeleteI loved the Dark red Kissable Lip Colour from Mac's peacocky collection in Love Peck. It's a fantastic dark purple based red shade that you can sheer out to a berry. Excellent look though!
ReplyDeletegothic red on lips are soooo hot! And I'm fond of your wing, you nailed it so super sharp! This look is amazing on you!
ReplyDelete@ Aisling, I bet you could!
ReplyDelete@ Hebridean Sprite, sounds nice I'll have to google for a swatch!
@ EyeGraffiti, I looove dark lips lately! Thanks :D
I know EXACTLY what you are talking about, as in, I can envision it in my mind. I've been on a quest to find a lipstick that matches that somewhat oxidized blood red color, but to no avail. If you find it, you must tell me.
ReplyDelete@ Mandy, it's so annoying having it in your mind and being unable to find it! And unable to mix it yourself -_- I'll be sure to let you know, if you find it let me know too!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Herbidean Sprite above, Love Peck is a pretty awesome dark red that doesn't lean brown, but it IS rather berry-ish. I also enjoy MAC Media but it is a bit of a wine type of shade. Sometimes I will wear a red gloss over black lipstick or a black gloss over a red lipstick to try to achieve this sort of effect. I agree that it is hard to find the type of shade you are describing.
ReplyDeleteYep I will!!
ReplyDeleteI love this look on you so dramatic and i agree a dark red is really hard to find. Have you tried the black honey ltd edition that clinique recently brought back out?
ReplyDelete@ Nicoletta, I've only seen the 'almost lipsticks' which are mega sheer. Have they brought it out as a proper lippy now?
ReplyDeleteOh thought I'd tell you I ordered Graftobian Savage Lipstick last week, I'll tell you how it goes!!
