A Little Bit o' Fyrinnae

One night on Twitter (why do all of my posts seems to start like this?!) I got all in a tizzy after seeing somebody tweet about how they thought Fyrinnae might be drawing to an end. If you've kept up with all of the Fyrinnae dramas and troubles over the years, you wouldn't blame me for having to agree with the tweet. It would really be the end of an indie make-up powerhouse if Fyrinnae closed, but honestly, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Fyrinnae are the company who got me into indie cosmetics - I would spend literally hours on the site, writing out wishlists, googling for swatches...You could say that they nurtured the make-up junkie in me! For old time's sake,  I decided to place an order of a few things I'd always been meaning to buy...

[[ Fyrinnae Swatches: Montalivet // Te Amo // Mephisto // Fire Opal // Pumpkin Fire ]]

Eeee, just look at how pretty they all are! 'Mephisto' is an incredible shade - coppery red over a blue base, in some lights it looks deep blue, in others purple, in others pure copper. It also looks so awesome in the jar, like somebody stole a galaxy of stars and planets and somehow turned it into an eyeshadow. 'Pumpkin Fire' is 10 x glitzier than it looks above, SO MUCH fine glitter over a matte, black base - can't wait to rock it on the next night out!

[[ Fyrinnae 'Mephisto' in the jar. Fyrinnae 'Center Stage' highlighter swatch ]]

I also bought a full size of 'Centre Stage' highlighter, since it's the perfect shade for me (a little too cool toned, if I'm being fussy!) Fyrinnae highlighters aren't glittery or shimmery, they just add a touch of light to your skin, great for a 'I'm naturally radiant' look - though I don't think I'd be fooling anybody haha :)

What are your favourite Fyrinnae shades? Do you think the end is nigh?

(P.S) Yesterday I got a quote for getting my Canon 450D fixed...it would total around £175 including tax and postage, so it actually makes more financial sense that I buy a brand new camera! Probably a Canon 550D, though I'm debating my first Nikon. Any camera geeks out there? Thoughts?

  8. Okay, if they're closing down, they can't close until after August, because I only have £20 to last me the month, and judging by all the gorgeous swatches I see, I will be spending a lot more than that on them.

Regarding your camera problem - I have a Nikon d50, And I think its pretty snazzy. Googling it would probably give you a better idea of the technical details than from what I can say off the top of my head. Its a wee bit tricky for swatch photos done by hand, as the distance it needs for really good focusing if you're using the autofocus (which I have to for swatch photos, because I can't get it to focus on my hand/arm if that's out of the way fiddling with the lens) is just a liiiittle but further away than the distance between my-face-plus-camera and my hand at arm's reach. Involves a wee bit of awkward stretching xD That all probably wasn't actually anything you needed to know, but... oh well. Good luck on your new camera hunt! And congrats on coming out of your neutrals phase :P

  9. Such pretty colors! I sure hope they don't close, but I would understand if they do. And I'm sure if they ever did, there would be massive orders coming in! Thanks for the swatches. I don't have Pumpkin Fire, but what a beautiful color!

  10. Yeah I sort of agree that it could be close to the end for them. They haven't been putting out anything new and with the store constantly being shut down... who knows what will happen. I need to place an order for a couple of things (Te Amo is now on that list, thanks to you!). Also: "one night on Twitter" will one day start a whole series of trashy romance novels, just you watch.

  16. I BLOODY WELL HOPE NOT D:

I nearly CRIED when Aromaleigh closed, and I haven't even TRIED Fyrinnae. I was hoping Fyrinnae would be in it for the long haul, and that I could wait to use up a few eyeshadows before ordering :(

  17. I really hope not. I haven't ordered from them yet, though I might as well place a big order in the next few weeks just in case... or hope someone reputable sells extras.

  20. Awesome swatches, these colours are all amazing. I have tried to order from Fyrinnae a couple of times recently and I couldn't get anything to show up in my basket for some reason. Hopefully they are not going to stop; I love the few things I have from them!

  22. I haven't heard anything about Fyrinnae closing down. I certainly hope not!

  23. I hope they don't close however peeps are right, no new collections in a long time and site is constantly up and down. I hope not I really do but these things happen

  24. i am also a fellow fyrinnae lover! my favourites are atomic afterglow, meerkat and snow leopard for everyday use :)

Just a question, I have Mephisto too, but I can't get mine to look like your swatch! I use pixie epoxy as a base, and then do a sort of patting motion with a flat brush when i apply the shadow... but then I get a very patchy effect, and the red doesn't show up as well. how do you apply it?

    thanks xx :)

  25. @ EVERYONE, guuuys, don't panic! It's only an inkling myself and a few others have that they will be closing before the year is out. You never know. They've had issues before but somehow pull through. As for ordering issues/ site being down etc, that's quite common for Fyrinnae - leave it a week then pop back to see if it's been restored.

@ Ruth, thanks! I'll look into it. It's fine about the swatch/ autofocus distance, I have a similar issue with the Cannon 450d and rarely look through the viewfinder for mega close up swatches!

@ Crunchystars, I really need to get Snow Leopard! Looks so pretty :) For these swatches I didn't used FPE, instead I used Darling Girl 'Glitter Glue'. Same principle as FPE, but smoother and frankly a little better.
