NOTD - Blue Glitter and Flakies

You ever do your nails and just *not know* when to stop? I do. Which resulted in this rather...interesting paint job. I really can't decide if it's outright ugly or pretty awesome! It reminds me of those pencils you had as a kid which changed colour with the heat of your hand - they were textured like lizard skin and I thought they were the best thing ever (I kinda still do.)

Dark Navy - MUA (no idea of the shade number, but it's the only dark sparkly blue they have.)
Blue Glitter - Techniques blue glitter
Flakies - GOSH 'Rainbow'
Holo Glitter - Barry M 'Hologram'

Ugly or awesome?

NOTD - Cosmic Pink

Reading this post on The London Lipgloss yesterday, I couldn't help but chuckle to myself - skanky or not, it seemed a great idea to me! I was feeling far too lazy to remove my chipped polish, so I took Zoe's advice and went mad with some glitter instead...

I love how glitter reflects light and how cameras can capture moving light, so obviously I upped my aperture and lowered my shutterspeed to catch the pink holographic awesomeness in action. The pictures reminded me of shooting stars :)

I USED...
China Glaze 'Strong Adhesion' base coat.
ELF 'Plum' (dark, vampy, red-purple)
MAC 'Mean and Green' (that duochrome polish that was duped to glory last year)
GOSH 'Rainbow' (opal flakie)
Stargazer pink holographic glitter

Um. Yeah. If I put any more on, I think my fingers would weight a tonne! I'm most certainly not looking forward to removing this... wish I could do the tin foil trick, but that's use up most of my Honey Bee Gardens remover! Darn it...Ah well, glitter is worth it!

(P.S) Changed the watermark text to match my header - win or fail?

FOTD - Golden Coral

EYES - UDPP, Fyrinnae 'Polar Bear', Fyrinnae 'Shrouded in Gold', Urban Decay 'Zero', Estee Lauder 'rose Confetti', MAC 'Vanilla' pigment, GOSH black eye pencil, E.L.F black cream eyeliner.

FACE - Kryolan ultra foundation as concealer, Collection 2000 'Matt + Minerals' foundation, Topshop 'Neon Rose' mixed with GOSH 'Darling', Shu Uemura 'Matte Peach' blush, Kryolan powder, MAC 'Vanilla' pigment.

LIPS - OCC 'Hush' and 'Trick' mixed.

Gold, smokey looks are some of my favourites and I thought a bit of warm, metallic eyeshadow would work well with my coral top. Coral doesn't exactly work with my green hair, but hey - lets ignore that little fact, shall we?!

How do you wear gold? How do you wear coral?

10 Ways to use GOSH 'Darling' (or any other 'Too Pale' Lipsticks)

Way back when I first started blogging...ok, so almost one year ago, I saw a few people nattering on about GOSH 'Darling'. How it had been one of those products everyone had loved for a while, then 90% of them realised it didn't really work for them. A few ended up in blog sales, in the bin, collecting dust...Jane over at Modesty Brown was kind enough to send me hers after I commented that my Superdrug didn't stock it and I was curious to try it out. Now, since I'm not *super* pale, I can't rock the pale lippies straight from the bullet, so I started playing with GOSH 'Darling' to see how exactly I could use pale lipsticks with them making me look awful...

[[ TOP: Barry M 145 + GOSH 'Darling'. BOTTOM: 17 'New Black' + GOSH 'Darling' ]]

1. To pale down dark lipsticks.
Once Autumn/ Winter is over, my lips rarely see dark shades until they come back 'on trend' 12 months later. A great way to get some use from them all year around is to mix them with a pale lipstick to make a shade which is wearable.

2. To make bright lipsticks more pastel.
I'm sure we've all done it - bought a bright lippy which doesn't quite suit us or we don't have the balls to wear. Instead of giving it away, turn it into a pastel by mixing it with a pale lipstick. Perfect for Spring/ Summer!

[[ Topshop 'Crushed Berry' and 'Neon Rose' cream blushes mixed with GOSH 'Darling' ]]

3. To tone down cream blush.
Occasionally I spot cream blushes which I know I would have to blend into oblivion for them to work with my skintone. Instead of passing said cream blushers by, I mix them with a pale lippy to make them more wearable. If you use a gloss finish/ moisturising lipstick, it makes the cream blush easier to blend into your skin, too.

4. To highlight cheekbones.
If you're not such a pro at blending, only use a lipstick a few shades lighter than your foundation, otherwise you might end up looking like Adam Ant. Otherwise, mix the lippy with your foundation and then apply it.

5. To highlight the centre of the lips.
Dab the pale colour into the centre of the lips to make them instantly look fuller and more youthful.

[[ OCC 'Hoochie' and 'Anime' lip tars mixed with GOSH 'Darling' ]]

6. To mix with liptars.
Sometimes I just don't feel like wearing 'Hoochie' and 'Anime' in their full eye blindingly bright glory, I apply my pale lippy and then rub the tiniest amount of lip tar into them for a less, um...neon effect.

7. To mix with pigments.
In general I'm not a huge fan of wearing dry pigments on the lips, but mixing a little with a moisturising lipstick results in a comfortable, soft finish. You can of course, also wear the resulting mix as a cream blush or highlighter.

8. With a tan, bronzer, gloss and metallic eyes.
The best way to counteract the 'dead lips' effect of a pale lipstick is to make sure the rest of your face looks anything but dead! The most effective way is to tan or wear a foundation a *touch* deeper than your regular choice (blend, blend, blend), matte bronzer under your cheekbones, shimmery bronzer over your cheekbones and a metallic eyeshadow look with natural looking lashes and well polished eyebrows. A touch of warm, neutral gloss would also help! Think Versace and Kisa.

[[ Lips - MAC 'Honeylove' and GOSH 'Darling' ]]

9. With dark smokey eyes, gloss and a deep contour.
My favourite way of all ten - pale lipstick right from the tube with eyes as dark as possible. I LOVE dramatic looks and this is perfect for a night out. Wear your usual foundation, a matte contour under the cheekbones/ jawline (if you like), a hint of cream blush over the apples of the cheeks (the slightest amount), dark eyeshadow in any style, defined eyebrows and heavy mascara. Top off with your lipstick and neutral gloss. Think Diane Von-Furstenburg and Gucci.

10. In a 'retro' kinda way.
Pale lips were big news in the sixties and seventies. The sixties saw deep, defined creases, bold eyeliner and falsies galore finished with pale lips (think Twiggy) and the style has started coming back recently - probably thanks to Adele. The seventies saw polished skin, glowing highlights, pale coloured eyeshadow, pink/ peach cheeks and pale lips (think NARS...then keep thinking NARS.)

I also use Barry M 'Palest Lavender', Barry M 'Marshmallow' and MAC 'Creme d'Nude' in these same ten ways :) How do you use pale lipstick? Which do you own?

(P.S) Sorry about how sketchy my pics have gotten recently, I keep playing with camera settings and either not putting them back before blog pics or messing with them even more!

FOTD - Faeries vs. Monsters

Today was one of those days when you wake up with plans, get up, feel inspired and then...boom. Something crops up which stops you fulfilling your plans. In my case, this was my grandparents visiting for an entire six hours. SIX HOURS. So instead of researching and producing designs for college work, I've drank lots of tea, done a few sudokus and painted my face.

[[ Oh hair, no matter how much I baby you, you're always dry as a bone. ]]

EYES - UDPP, FPE, Fyrinnae 'Digital Faerie', Venomous Cosmetics 'Stiletto Snake', Venomous Cosmetics 'Monster under Your Bed', Sassy Minerals 'Understated', Kryolan liquid eyeliner, mascara, GOSH pencil eyeliner.

FACE - Kryolan ultra foundation as concealer, Collection 2000 'Matt + Minerals', Kryolan translucent powder, Accessorize 'Bermuda' bronzer, Ben Nye blush.

LIPS - Clinique 'Coral Crush' lippy, OCC 'Hush' lip tar.

I decided on wearing a coral lip instead of the usual flat out nude, it is brighter 'in real life' but creamy enough to get away with it. I'm not really a fan of coloured lips paired with coloured eyes, though - maybe I just love MAC 'Honeylove' too much?

TUTORIAL - Singed Orange Smokey Eyes

Annabella of Skin Scrubs requested I do the makeup from the Appleton 'Don't Worry' video (it's a remix, but heck, none of you want to hear it anyway - trust me!) and I loved it. Orange is a really hot colour for Spring, and although smokey eyes are usually ditched in favour of something softer, I think the brown really works. Brown, plus orange, plus the peaches, pinks and creams of the season - what could go wrong?! I think this look would be great for parties and (fingers crossed) late night BBQs with friends.

FOTD - Sky Blue and 'That' Purple

A while ago on Twitter, I asked for some eyeshadow colour combination ideas. I'll admit, sometimes I just can't be bothered thinking for myself and you guys do a great job of doing it for me! Anyway, somebody suggested turquoise and purple (who was it?) and I thought immediately of one of my favourite eyeshadow combos...

EYES - UDPP, Nyx 'Milk' jumbo pencil, MAC 'Clear Sky Blue', MUFE 92, MAC 'Entremauve', Sassy Minerals 'Sensible Shoes', Kryolan liquid eyeliner, GOSH pencil eyeliner, random falsies, Sleek black, Sleek indigo, purple glitter.

FACE - Kryolan Ultra Foundation as concealer, Collection 2000 Matt + Minerals foundation, a mish mash of about five different blushes (no idea why), Kryolan powder.

LIPS - MAC 'Blankety' lippy, GOSH 'Darling' lippy, Taxi London 'Mile End' gloss

Aint sky blue and shocking purple just one of the best colour combinations ever in existance of the whole entire Universe? I think so. I hope I can buy a full size of MAC 'Clear Sky Blue' one day because it is hands down my favourite pigment!

Have you got a favourite MAC pigment? Or a favourite sky blue eyeshadow?

FOTD - Easy, Everyday Shimmer

A look I wear when I feel like being a little more polished and presentable than usual! It only takes about two minutes extra than my usual 'everyday' face, but makes a big difference to my look (I think, anyway). The only things I've added are a shimmery, pink-brown eyeshadow, black eyeliner and some highlight. I'd usually wear lipstick but all I wanted was some balm today :)

[[ Can definitely tell I'm STILL due a proper hair cut :S ]]

EYES - UDPP, GOSH black pencil eyeliner, MAD Minerals 'Ruby Sunset', Sassy Minerals 'Sensible Shoes', Sassy Minerals 'Happy Hour', mascara

FACE - Kryolan Ultra Foundation as concealer, Collection 2000 Matt + Minerals foundation, custom mix face powder, Shu Uemura Medium Peach glow blush, MAC 'What a Dame!' beauty powder, Sleek 'Peach' glo palette.

LIPS - Figs & Rouge 'Rambling Rose' lip balm.

I can't express my love for MAD Minerals 'Ruby Sunset' often enough - it's just....GORGEOUS! Soft, sandy brown which glows with a golden pink in different lighting. It's one of those neutrals which you just can't stop staring at and well worth a look if you're after a neutral with a little something special.

New Years Eve Makeup!

Hello m'dears! What are you all doing for New Years Eve? I'm heading out to a party with my boyfriend, a bag stuffed full of cider and so much makeup on my face that Jordan would be jealous.

Meeeeega simple. I was going to go all out and wear a tonne of black glitter and false lashes, but I know it wouldn't end well. Sat on the bathroom floor, half drunk and clutching at baby wipes, crying and dribbling because glitter is in my eyes and I think I'm going blind...

EYES - TFSI, ELF black cream eyeliner, Sleek black, Yaby silver, Yaby white, Kryolan white eyeliner, mascara.

FACE - GOSH primer, Kryolan Ultra foundation as concealer, Collection 2000 Matt + Minerals, Rimmel powder, Accessorize 'Bermuda' blush, Sleek Peach Glo palette.

LIPS - MAC 'Honeylove', Colour Works toffee gloss.

Ye-aaah! Hope everyone has a fun New Years Eve, drink, dance and be mischievous ;)

FOTD - Wild Berry

Whenever I whip out my Jack Daniels top I feel the sudden urge to back comb my hair, put some power metal on and of course paint on some bold lips...

EYES - A dab of foundation, Yaby white and shell eyeshadows, Illamasqua sealing gel, Kryolan black cake eyeliner, mascara.

FACE - GOSH primer, Kryolan ultra foundation as concealer, Collection 2000 'Matt + Minerals' foundation mixed with Revlon PhotoReady, Rimmel powder, Accessorize 'Bermuda' bronzer, Ben Nye blush.

LIPS - Clinique 'Wild Berry' lipstick.

I'm not sure if 'Wild Berry' is still available or how much it costs...but if you stop by a Clinique counter you should check it out. It's more of a deep purple-red 'in real life',  I think any red lip fan would LOVE this shade - it's quite unique and I've yet to find something close to it. To top it off, the formula and pigmentation is a-ma-zing, so comfortable to wear and long lasting, too - what more could you want?!

What's your favourite red/ berry lip colour?
