Lady Boys of Bangkok Make-up Challenge with Stargazer

Not too long ago, myself and a few other bloggers were chosen to be part of a make-up challenge to celebrate The Lady Boys of Bangkok 'Glamorous Amorous' show. Stargazer were kind enough to sponsor the challenge and provided everyone with some intriguing bits of make-up to include in our looks...

The lady boys of Bangkok always have very clean, elegant, beautiful make-up yet Stargazer scream 'FUN! BOLD! GLITZ! LOOK!' to me - so I tried to merge both styles. I kept my base pale and loaded on the black 'liner - deciding if I were in the show I'd definitely be the odd looking outcast! My act would be singing 80's goth songs in a diva-esque way - fabulous.

The eye make-up consisted of a base of Stargazer white foundation with matte white eyeshadow applied over the top, a rich metallic red blended through the edges, the black eyeshadow blended through were the red and white meet...

I then dabbed Stargazer gold glitter eyeliner all around where the red blended into my foundation and applied black gems with eyelash glue.

To finish the eyes, I lined the upper and lower lashline and applied two sets of lashes - natural ones on top and some gold glitter tipped Stargazer ones on the bottom. I love applying lashes to the bottom lid, it can completely transform a look.

For the lips, I fancied an ombre style. Starting by filling the lips with Stargazer 137 (deep metallic green) to darken the bold cherry red I applied over the top, I then blended a deep red from the edges, then applied Stargazer 134 (red bronze) lipstick in the center. I then dabbed some Stargazer gold glitter eyeliner over the top.

I finished the look with some Stargazer bronzer and the slightest touch of Stargazer blush in number 12 (bubblegum pink) and that was that! Lady Boys of Bangkok look complete!

FOTD - Kim Kardashian Gold and Brown Eyes

I love a good, full on, make-up make-up -  heavy base, loads of highlighter, lashes, the lot! If I could wear a TOWIE face every day, I probably would. These days, however, I'm a massive loser who never goes on nights out or to special events so the only time I ever do full make-up is after a good old Youtube binge. After watching Pixiwoo's 'Kim Kardashian' tutorial I had to give it a whirl!

 

 

EYES - TFSI, NYC gold liquid eyeliner, MUA deep gold from 'Heaven and Earth' palette, Sleek 'Au Naturel', Collection black pencil eyeliner, MUA liquid eyeliner, mascara, Active Cosmetics lashes in style #05.

FACE - Maybelline 'Fit Me' foundation, 17 liquid concealer (avoid this - it's horrifically bad), Ben Nye natural blush, Sleek 'Oh So Special' (as blush), Sleek shimmer brick, Sleek 'Sahara'.

LIPS - MAC 'Angel', Kiss My Sass 'Innocence' gloss, random Bobby Pin shimmery pink gloss.

Unfortunately I did this pretty late when all the natural light had died, so the photos aren't the best, but you get the picture. It looks way more daytime wearable in the full pic than it was IRL! Definitely an evening/ special occasion look unless you like a full face to go about your daily errands.

If you've got small eyes like me, I recommend darkening the lower lashline and crease slightly with a shimmering brown else all that eyeliners going to give you button eyes!

REVIEW - Stargazer Eye Tattoos

Anyone remember when sweets sometimes came with tattoo transfers? And you'd make your mum put them on your arm so you'd look mega cool at school the next day? I loved those things! Since the days of Spider Man and dolphin transfers, however, I've grown up a bit (I'd still rock the Hell out of a Spider Man transfer, though!)...but fear not, for transfers have grown up a bit too...

The latest offering comes from Stargazer, who have just launched some transfers designed for the eye area. From simple flicks to the bolder flame design, there's something suited to everyone.

I chose to try out the 'Rose and Ribbons' design first, popping the transfers from the sheets, cutting off excess paper, peeling off the plastic backing and holding them in place against my skin. I then used wet tissue paper to gently dab over the designs and slid the backing paper off to reveal the design below.

It might sound a bit fiddly and long winded, but it's actually really easy and quick! The design comes away from the paper cleanly and smoothly, with no tears or dragging on the skin.

Since the transfers have to be applied to totally clean, make-up free skin, working foundation up to the edges of the design was probably the most annoying bit of the whole process - but even that wasn't terrible. I found that eyeshadow, powder and water based make-up sat well over the transfer.

These would be awesome for anyone into fun make-up, for if you're going out clubbing and feel a bit brave, photoshoots, festivals, concerts...Plus, these things stay in place - only something oil based will budge them!

FOTD - Persuasion

Now, I don't know about you, but I find applying actual loose glitter a bit of a ball ache. A super glitzy eyeshadow paired with a sticky base, is always an easier option! Darling Girl 'Persuasion' was my weapon of choice today - a pale lavender toned pink with gold and turquoise sparkle.

 

EYES - TFSI, Darling Girl 'Glitter Glue', Darling Girl 'Persuasion' (applied dry, then wet), Fyrinnae 'Faerie Glamour', Sleek black, Sleek pale yellow and white mixed, MUA liquid eyeliner, mascara.

FACE - New Cid primer, Collection 'Lasting Perfection' concealer, NYC mousse foundation, Collection loose powder, The Balm 'Frat Boy' blush.

LIPS - Detrivore vanilla 'embalming stick'.

Let me just tell you, these pictures do 'Persuasion' no justice. I wish I could capture just how much sparkle there is when this gem is applied wet! It's amazing! If you're a fan of Darling Girl 'My Little Pony', this is basically a paler, way more attention grabbing version. You should go and perv over Swatch Freak's...um...swatches.

FOTD - Death Rock

Yesterday evening, I settled down and started watching Under Blue Lights videos on Youtube. After watching a few of her incredible videos, I felt inspired to have a go myself, though I didn't come close to her level of awesomeness!

 

The light was dying since it was late in the evening and therefore photos were pretty horrific. Layering images hides a multitude of awful image quality, though you can't see the make-up as clearly. Ah well, you get the idea of it! I felt like a death rock bride of Frankenstein!

FOTD - Red Eyeshadow? Yes Please!

Recently I've been enamoured with red eyeshadow - whether it's firey hot or dark and vampy, I haven't been able to take my mind off it. I blame the Pixiwoo sisters, whenever they use red tones with their cool bluey greeny greyish eyes my brain goes a bit loopy - it must be love, right?

Oh, say 'Hi' to my new wig, too! I wont link you to where I bought it exactly because they sent the wrong style and colour *rolls eyes* I had to cut and steam style it myself (hence the slightly dodgy fringe) to make it wearable.

See how red kinda brings out the yellowy green rings in my iris? Red seriously works with any eye colour, it's just a case of finding something to suit your skin tone.

OOH! I have a shiny new hat, too, I figured it was about time I bought one. New Look to the rescue with this £4.99 slouchy, bobble hat :)

FOTD - Apocalips Now

Today I felt a bit like trowelling on the make-up and doing something dramatic! I decided to recreate a look that I wore on a night out a few weeks ago, involving '60s inspired eyeshadow, Arabic eyeliner, 80's cheeks, gothic skin and apocalyptic lips. Quite a mash up, really!

Don't worry, on the actual night out I pale out my neck, chest and arms too - I felt too lazy to do so today, hence the tan neck and chest!

Falsies would amp this look up a bit more - but between the eyeliner and the lips I think there's already enough going on! Swapping the teal for a peachy nude and popping on some falsies would probably be a look most would feel a bit more themselves in, however. Still - this look is very 'me' and I still think 'Apocalips' is FREAKIN' AWESOME.

FOTD - May the Fourth Be With You!

Happy Star Wars day, nerds and sci-fi geeks! I've never actually watched it myself, mainly because the only word that should follow 'Star' is 'Trek'. HOWEVER. Every year, the people on my course gather for a pub crawl on May the Fourth. We're supposed to go fancy dress but I didn't really have anything Star Wars-esque...So, I AM the stars!

It's almost the same as the Illamasqua elementals look I did a while back, just with added glitz!I look way more like a cyber goth than the galaxy but...y'know...swings and roundabouts. Sorry for how horrifically over-exposed my face is - that's SPF and flash for ya!

REVIEW - Stargazer Lip Tattoos

A little while ago there was some kind of trend for temporary lip tattoos. I think Jessie J was the first celeb spotted wearing them, but apparently Gaga and probably a few other 'quirky' characters have followed suit. Personally, I love the look, so was excited when Stargazer's lip tattoos found their way into my hands...

On the Stargazer site, they're simply called 'Sexy Pout', which is a bit daft since that could be referring to any lip product! They aren't typically sexy either - but anyway, enough with picking at the name. Lets get on to the product itself.

The transfers pop out of a card sheet, you trim them to size using guidelines on the back, peel off the plastic film, hold them to your lips, dab water over the back and hey presto - funky lip patterns! Cutting them to fit is a bit of a pain - the guidelines are pointless, I ignored them in the end! I ended up entirely re-shaping the transfers because they simply don't work with fuller lip shapes.

They felt a little odd on, but not uncomfortable and after about ten minutes I was oblivious to them entirely. Mine lasted well until I devoured a bowl of hot pasta and the edges turned all gunky. I think these would wear really, really well for parties, photoshoots, nights out etc if at no point you were eating greasy food! Lip tattoos can be easily removed with oil based cleansers or regular olive oil.

Stargazer lip tattoos are priced at £4, though I'm not sure if that's for 1 (in which case it seems steep) or the regular three you get from other brands. Available from the Stargazer site, though not currently in stock - keep an eye out!

REVIEW - Illamasqua 'Apocalips' Lipstick

As soon as I saw the preview images of Illamasqua's latest collection, 'Human Fundamentalism', I KNEW 'Apocalips' had to be mine. If ever there was a lipstick that seems like it was made especially for me, it's this gorgeous, deep teal. My boyfriend offered to venture to town on a miserable, rainy day to go to Selfridges beauty hall to collect this for me since I was ill, I went with him but still, aint that cute?

  'Apocalips' come housed in the usual sleek, black, square tube cases that all Illamasqua lipsticks are packaged in. The Illamasqua logo is embossed on the top of the lid, the name of the lipstick on the bottom. these tubes close with a satisfying 'click' that I know fellow lipstick junkies will adore.

Unlike the last 'strange' colour Illamasqua released ('Kontrol'), 'Apocalips isn't really at all creamy. I'd definitely recommend a good dose of lip balm before attempting to apply this! Pigmentation and staying power are, however, utterly fabulous.

In theory, since teal is the opposite to orange-red on the colour wheel, our eyes should accept it as an equally normal shade on the lips - according to Alex Box, anyway. An intriguing theory and I love where it's coming from but I'm afraid I don't accept it! Teal is going to stand out as something unique a mile away - which is why 'Apocalips' is special in the first place! Who decided red was a 'normal' shade for lips, anyway? Why should teal be any different? Stars on black and white films actually used to wear teal lipstick for shooting - apparently it showed up the best lip colour on screen!

You lot already know I'm head over heels for 'Apocalips' (look, it even matches my hair!) but do you need it? No, of course not! If you like collecting llamasqua's less socially accepted lipstick shades, have the balls to wear teal lips in public or just fancy a fun addition to your lippy collection - you can't go wrong.
